“Lost In A Place Called Home” is a visual narrative that started as a personal journey to explore the trivial question we have as humans: “Who am I?”
When this question arises, a common practice in our society is to focus your attention to the labels, titles, and possessions we use to help define the image we view as “ourselves.”
After exploring different ideologies and viewpoints, a new theory was born inside me. Through detachment from self-identification, could I discover “Who I am?” Theoretically, creating a new foundation based on sameness and unity.
On this journey, I examined all the beliefs I had been preconditioned to believe. Challenging the things I believed to be true. Challenging the things I believed to be false. Questioning everything, to discover my truth and understanding of the world.
Shifting my attention and focus off of myself; I redirected my focus outward to observe, identify, and connect to universal humanity.
As I trekked throughout Bali finding beauty in unexpected places, everywhere I looked presented reflections of who “I am.” In the process of creating these intimate portraits, I did not search for subjects to photograph. I searched in the eyes of those who surround me, searching to find myself within them. Embracing and embodying the oneness between us unveiled a raw poetic truth. Neither you nor I can be defined within a title or label, or our physical bodies.
“Who Am I?”
I am everything and I am nothing. Everything I am, everything I have been, and everything I will be, is all expressed within the timeless and infinite root:
I AM
