"A catalyst for self-discovery; photography became my gateway into the dark. Detaching from personal identification with form, I surrendered my soul to the unknown. This very intimate and emotive process between the subject and myself allowed the subjects to transform into mirrors, reflecting back to me the beautiful isolation I felt consumed by. This inner connectedness between subject (form) and expression (feeling) is why I consider these images to be a form of “self- portraits.”
“Into the Void” as presented, is positioned more as a question to the audience, rather than an answer. It is an invitation to analyze the places within ourselves we tend to hide: our shadows and darkness. Expressed as a visual poem, this collective work is intended to provoke feeling, curiosity, and emotion. Each individual will have different experiences and perspectives; this is why the “answer” or “story” is completely ambiguous - dependent on who is standing witness.
In my work I eliminate different aspects to minimize distraction within the photographs. Isolating the subjects and decontextualizing their surroundings help bridge the gap between perspectives of something outside themselves, to a perspective within themselves establishing an inner connection. Illuminating a gateway into their personal humanistic void."
